Voices from the Vacant Lot have extensive experience composing and performing for audiences here and overseas. Their arrangements and singing of non-western musical forms, has allowed them to enrich their own compositions with an edge of innovation.
Their repertoire continues to grow and reveal influences from many world styles while remaining connected to strong and powerful cultural roots.
In 19 years of public concerts they have built a reputation for moving and dynamic performance. The choir has performed extensively in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Indonesia; at various major folk festivals; and in concert with many of the best vocal groups in Australia. They have been proud to perform before some of the great political and cultural figures of our day, such as Gough Whitlam, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Solidarity Choir have also been singing for nearly 19 years, and their commitment is to singing songs of freedom - on the streets, on picket lines, at folk festivals, at gatherings of celebration and of sorrow, and also just for fun on the beach, or in the park (not to mention in the pub!). Their songs of freedom and struggle come from all around the world, including our own country, where racism, inequality and environmental destruction cry out for action.
